Pre & Postnatal Massage Care at Pür Balance

Author: Laura Savage, RMT ǀ Nurse at Pür Balance

At Pür Balance Massage in Cambridge, pre- and postnatal massage has become one of the fastest-growing areas of our practice. With strong referral support from local OB/GYNs and midwives, our team is committed to extending care for mothers during pregnancy and beyond.

We are proud to have a team of 10 experienced Registered Massage Therapists in Cambridge, many of whom have specialized training in prenatal and postpartum massage therapy. This means you’ll always find an RMT who understands the unique needs of pregnancy and recovery.

One of the highlights for many moms-to-be in their second and third trimester is the comfort of lying face down on our specially designed pregnancy tables that accommodate your growing belly and chest. You can enjoy a massage that feels both safe and deeply relaxing.

First-time clients will complete a health history form so we can provide the safest and most effective care. Prenatal massage is a great option for normal to moderate-risk pregnancies. If your pregnancy is considered high-risk, we simply ask for approval from your doctor or midwife.

Benefits of Prenatal Massage

Massage during pregnancy provides physical, emotional, and psychological benefits that make the journey more comfortable:

  • Relieves back pain, hip pain, and joint discomfort caused by weight-bearing changes

  • Reduces headaches, tension, and muscular tightness

  • Improves circulation, delivering more oxygen and nutrients to mother and baby while stimulating the lymph system to reduce swelling

  • Promotes deeper, more restful sleep by calming the nervous system

  • Helps ease common discomforts such as sciatica, carpal tunnel, leg cramps, and SI joint pain

  • Supports posture and alignment as your body adjusts to your growing baby

  • Provides a safe, natural, drug-free alternative to manage pregnancy-related discomfort

  • Encourages relaxation and stress relief, preparing the body for a smoother labor and delivery

Benefits of Postpartum Massage

Postnatal massage is just as valuable as prenatal care. It helps new mothers recover both physically and emotionally after childbirth. Key benefits include:

  • Hormone regulation and emotional support

  • Reduced swelling and water retention

  • Improved sleep quality

  • Enhanced breastfeeding by reducing chest and shoulder tension

  • Faster recovery from delivery and support for C-section healing

  • Gentle restoration of the body toward its pre-pregnancy condition

At Pür Balance, non-mobile infants and newborns are welcome to accompany their mothers during their postpartum massage, making it easier to prioritize healing and self-care.
